Sunny, frosty winter week ahead in Latvia

Take note – story published 5 years ago

The next five days in Latvia will be characterized by consistently sub-zero temperatures, but good snow cover and frequently sunny skies should add up to a pleasant and pretty winter week.

The coldest weather this week is expected early on Tuesday morning when air temperatures in many parts of Vidzeme and Latgale will fall to -20 Celsius and even -25 degrees in places, making it also the coldest day of winter so far. In other parts of Latvia the thermometer will drop to a less extreme -12 C to - 17 C degrees, while in the west of Kurzeme it will be much milder at only 0 C to - 5 C.

The rest of the working week will be marginally milder but still well below freezing.

Even though the sun will shine frequently, there will be cloudy periods and a few snow flurries.

Southern and eastern winds will prevail, and will be slow until the weekend, when they will pick up appreciably.

The weekend will be cloudy with more snow but less severe frosts at night.
