Temperatures in Latvia to rise and fall over weekend

Take note – story published 5 years ago

It will be a weekend of weather contrasts in Latvia over coming days with the current snow cover starting to melt on Saturday before temperatures drop and everything freezes up again.

Precipitation is expected on Friday night and Saturday morning - mostly snow and sleet, while along the coast it will rain, with temperatures mild at between 0 and + 3 Celsius in the west and -1 C to - 3 C in the east.

On Saturday, the weather will stabilize with little precipitation but general cloud cover, while into Sunday the sky will gradually clear and the sun will shine in the course of the day. As a result of the clear skies, temperatures will drop appreciably at night to - 7 C in many places and as low as -10 C in parts of Vidzeme.

The general weather pattern is likely to continue over the course of next week with temperature fluctuations leading to a cycle of thawing and freezing with periods of snow and rainfall in between according to the air temperature. Only in eastern Latgale is it likely to remain consistently below freezing temperature.
