The air temperature in Kolka reached +12.4 degrees Celsius at noon on Thursday, setting a new heat record of February 25, according to LSM's weatherman Toms Bricis.

The temperature may still rise in the afternoon.

Previously, the highest temperature on that date was recorded in 1990, when it was +12.2 C.

In the rest of the country the air temperature has reached +4 C to +11 C. This is the warmest day since last November, when temperatures reached +13.9 C in Riga on November 6.

February's absolute peak temperature has not been topped, as on February 26, 1989, Liepāja recorded +15.5 C.

Over the weekend it will be cooler, but in the afternoons the temperature will rise above zero throughout the country.
