According to state meteorology agency measurements, by 6:00 am rainfall levels had reached 22mm in Dobele and Rucava, 21mm in Liepaja and Saldus, but less in Riga (14mm) and Ventspils (11mm).
Dobele has been the hardest hit locale in Latvia as regards rainfall recently, measuring already twice the monthly normal average at 42mm so far in October.
The rain will have moved in its heaviest concentrations across the country inland to Latgale and Vidzeme by mid-morning, then falling in intensity in the south of Zemgale and Latgale, while increasing however in the north of Kurzeme and Vidzeme, which could see as much as 20-30mm of downpour.
Already downtown Riga is dealing with isolated flooding on streets well known for chronic poor-drainage problems. Giant puddles are discouraging pedestrians and drivers alike, and delaying public transportation by between 10 to 40 minutes on some routes. City street maintenance authorities are pumping the water away at critical intersections to keep traffic flowing, albeit slowly, reported LETA.
Riga may see anywhere from between 15 to 24mm of rain before Tuesday afternoon is over. The skies will stay overcast all day, with slow winds and high temperatures up to +11 or +12 degrees Celsius.
Highs elsewhere will reach +10 in northern Vidzeme up to +15 in southern Latgale.
