The heat will dominate the entire week in Latvia, and in places there will be thunderstorms, most likely on Wednesday and Thursday. Some of the thunderstorms may be strong, with heavy rainfall, hail and wind gusts, but still, in most parts of the country, the weather will be dry and sunny.
Air temperatures in the afternoons will reach +28 C to +33 C, +34 C on Wednesday and Thursday. At nighttime, air temperatures will not drop below +18 C to +23 C.
There have been 14 tropical nights in Riga this summer, when temperatures did not fall below +20 degrees. So far, the highest number of tropical nights were in the years 2010 and 2018, both times hitting 14, but since this week will have more tropical nights, a new record will be hit.
Over the weekend there will be a more noticeable north, north-east wind that will bring a slightly drier air, and the temperature will drop by 2 to 4 degrees, but the weather will still be warm, sometimes hot.
It is advised to avoid direct sunlight, drink plenty of water and take care of one's health during this unusual heat.
