Warm sunny week could see some storms and sprinkles

The work week according to weather forecasts seems to be shaping up as a warm one, with occasional cloudy and rainy spells interrupting otherwise mostly sunny skies all the way up to the weekend.

Nevertheless, nighttime lows will dip low enough to cause early morning ground-level frosts, as temperatures Monday were between +2 and + 6 degrees. Skies will be clear and sunny, a slow south-westerly wind will dominate and highs will rise to between +19 and +22 degrees Celsius, cooler between +16 and +18 on the sea- and gulf-shores.

A cold front is expected to arrive Tuesday night from the west, therefore light morning rains are predicted for western Kurzeme province, while temperatures fall to between +8 and +12 degrees. The rain may get moderate to heavy in spots throughout Vidzeme and Latgale provinces, even accompanied by thunder and lightning. Most of the land will warm up to between +16 and +21 degrees, but Latgale should heat up to between +22 and +26 degrees.

From Wednesday through Friday no major changes in the weather pattern are expected. Days are predicted to be partly cloudy, with sunshine breaking through frequently, however with brief and scattered bouts of precipitation, and a possibility of thunderstorms. Prevailing winds will be from the west and south. Though overnight lows will fall to between +2 and +9 degrees, there is only a slight chance of frost, while highs during the day should hover inside the +15 to +20 degree range.

On Saturday forecasts call for the winds to turn from the south-southeast and become gustier. Current prognoses show that thunderstorms may form in the western and central parts of the land. Temperatures will remain warm, as lows stay from +7 to +12 degrees and rise during the day to +20 and +25 degrees.

Sunday looks to have slightly lower possibility of rain, however temperatures may cool by about 2 to 4 degrees.
