Weather week in Latvia: A warm start to March

Take note – story published 4 years ago

March will begin with warm but wet weather, according to the latest forecasts from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC).

Once again, temperatures are likely to be close to seasonal record levels and could touch +10 Celsius at times. However, it will sometimes be tricky to enjoy such high temperatures as they will bring a good deal of rain and occasional gusty, strong winds on some days of the week.

On Monday, the sky will occasionally be clear and precipitation is likely to be limited to the east of the country. Moderate southerly and southwesterly winds will be blowing but will gradually swing around from the south to southeast instead. Temperatures during the day will be between + 6 C and + 9 C though at night, with temperatures around freezing point, drivers are advised to be cautious as roads could be slippery.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, as the effects of the cyclone intensify, there will be clouds in the sky and rain is expected. Slow to moderate east and southeasterly winds will prevail, increasing to 15 m / s gusts on Wednesday. Both the nights and the days will be warm - during the night the air temperature will be + 2 C to  + 5 C and during the day the air temperature will be + 4 C to + 9 C.

As the working week ends, the sky will remain cloudy, with more rain on Friday, also expected to be heaviest in the eastern part of the country. Slow winds and slightly colder air will see the temperature during the night around + 1 C to + 4 C, but during the day it will not be warmer than + 6 C.

At the weekend it is expected the skies will clear again, bringing colder but sunnier and more enjoyable weather with the temperature again reaching freezing point at night.
