Weather week: starting with snow, getting warmer thereafter

Though parts of Vidzeme and Latgale woke Monday to their first real snow of the season, the wintry conditions will only be short-term and by the second half of the week, the weather in Latvia will become much warmer, forecasts show.

The snow should quickly melt and will be replaced by regular rainfall until Thursday, with cyclonic conditions dominating, until as next weekend approaches conditions will get sunnier and warmer.

The air temperature will decrease to between 0 Celsius and + 5 Celsius Monday night, but will be much milder along the coast where +8 C can be expected. Daytime temperatures for Monday-Wednesday will be in the range of +6 C to + 11 C.

The warmest weather this week is expected on Thursday, when the thermometer bar will rise to around + 14 C in many places and could even touch +15 C or + 16 C degrees. Temperatures will then stay just below that level heading into the weekend.

The prevailing winds will be westerly and southerly throughout the week. Generally moderate, they will strengthen on Thursday and Friday, reaching 20 meters per second in gusts along the coast.
