Weekend weather for Latvia: Nice Saturday, nasty Sunday

Take note – story published 3 years ago

Frost is expected in many places on Saturday morning, but the day itself will be mostly sunny, while on Sunday the weather will get worse, according to forecasts.

Friday night and Saturday morning will see the temperature dropping as low as - 4 degrees in places, though along the coast the temperature will remain a few degrees above zero. Fog is expected, and frost when there is no cloud cover. After the chilly start, Saturday will be mostly sunny, with a risk of scattered showers and light winds.

Saturday night and Sunday morning will again bring sub-zero temperatures away from the coast but during the day, the sky will be cloudy all over Latvia. Westerly and northwesterly winds will increase significantly in strength, reaching gusts of 14–19 meters per second, and in some places on the coast 20–22 meters per second.

There will be occasional rain, and in the afternoon and evening sleet can be expected with an outside chance of the first snowfall of the season. However, any snow that does make it to terra firma will not settle.

Afternoon air temperatures on both Saturday and Sunday will be in the range of +4 Celsius to  + 9 C.

Next week, the weather will remain cool at first, but in the second half of the week the temperature will rise significantly, exceeding +10 C again.
