White Christmas in store for Latvia

Take note – story published 5 years ago

Christmas eve should be cold and snowy across the country for the first time since 2012, forecasts say.

Saturday and Sunday are expected to be snowy, and the weather on December 24 is expected to be cold with temps of 0...-5C and -6..-10C in the country's eastern regions.

The snow cover is to be somewhat thinner in Kurzeme and about 10-15 cm thick in most of Vidzeme and Latgale cultural regions.

A partial thaw is to set in on December 25 with temperatures of -2 to +4C across the country. Roads may become icy throughout Christmas time as thawing is expected to be followed by periods of cold.

Meanwhile, according to current forecasts New Year's is expected to be snow-less and rather warm.

This should be good news to everyone visiting Latvia in general and Rīga in particular, seeing as it has a pretty strong claim in being the first place where a Christmas tree was decorated.
