Take note – story published 2 years ago

During the second half of the week, there will be a lot of precipitation and a persistent, gusty wind in Latvia, according to the latest forecasts.

On Thursday, with short breaks, it will rain for a long time, and in the afternoon and evening the rain will turn to wet snow in many places. The air temperature in the middle of the day will reach its highest mark this week – from 4 degrees Celsius in Alūksne to 8 degrees in Zemgale and Rīga area.

There will be more rain over the weekend with Saturday likely bringing a morning blizzard which will metamorphose into heavy rain and sleet in the middle of the day before returning to blizzard form in the evening.

In the second half of the week there will also be gusty winds, mostly from the west, southwest, and at some times also the northwest. On the coast gusts may at times reach about 20 meters per second, though there is a risk that the wind in the vicinity of Liepaja on Saturday may be even stronger.

The air temperature at the weekend will be in the range of -3 C to +5 C both at night and during the day.

The roads will be awful. When they are not dangerously icy they will likely be wet and muddy. Kurzeme and Zemgale will tend towards mud, Latgale and Vidzeme towards ice.

Precipitation will reach the climatic norm for the whole month by the end of the week in some places in Kurzeme and Vidzeme, prompting water levels in the rivers to rise again, which may cause localized flooding.

Next week will also bring lots of rain.
