We may be well into May, but LSM's weatherman Toms Bricis is warning that this week in Latvia will be particularly cold with night-time frosts and snowfall in several places.
New seasonal records for cold are expected to be posted.
Night-time temperatures will reach -6 C from Monday to Thursday with days faring better with temperatures of +6 to +11 C , markedly down on the warm days just enjoyed over the long holiday weekend. Drivers on summer tires are warned to look out for slippery patches on roads.
The next four nights will be cooler, average frost 0 ..- reach 6 degrees, in some places, mainly in the coast, the temperature will remain one degree above zero.
Towards the end of the week and the weekend, things will improve with the temperature rising to about + 15 C degrees, though night-time frosts will still be possible.
Frost may cause damage to fruit blossoms which have started to appear, with a possible knock-on effect to crops later in the year.
Nedēļas pirmajā pusē vēss un lietains, bet otrajā pusē nokrišņi mitēsies un gaisa temperatūra dienā paaugstināsies https://t.co/UI5tI0KHok pic.twitter.com/IyYwJ1AhF2
