“2Annas” short film festival competition program includes 65 films

The 24th Rīga international short film festival “2Annas”, which will be held at Kaņepes Culture Centre from February 10-16, will include 65 films from around the world in the competition program, organizers announced on January 6.

The program will offer viewers 28 films in the International Short Film competition, 18 films in the Baltic Short Film competition, five films in the International Mid Length Film competition and 14 films in the International Children's Short Film Competition. This year competition winners will be awarded 2000 euros in film equipment rental and post-production from BBRental and BBPostHouse.

The carefully selected competition program will offer the newest, as well as critically acclaimed films from Europe, America and Asia, while introducing viewers both to global trends and local cinema. The competition received 2654 entries from around the world.

“This year the international competition program will include globally acclaimed and award-winning short films such as Cannes Golden Palm winner The Distance Between Us and the Sky by director Vasilis Kekatos, and Berlinale Golden Bear winning documentary Blue Boy by director Manuel Abramovich, as well as truly new discoveries and unscreened short and mid-length films,” said 2Annas Program Director Laima Graždanoviča.

“For example, thanks to the #metoo movement and international discussions in society about gender equality this year we received and will see several films on-screen dealing with these important topics within our culture,” said Graždanoviča.
