Three for the Weekend in Latvia: Summer begins

The summer season is about to really begin in Latvia, when festivals, musical and cultural events, and generally a good time can be found virtually every night. Here are some tips for a good weekend.

Night of Churches

On Saturday, May 27, the annual Night of Churches event takes place throughout Latvia, with over 150 churches participating. Churches will be open to visitors largely starting from 18:00 but some will open earlier, and many will offer concerts and other events. A detailed program can be consulted here, and the map below shows the churches you can visit during the night.

Open-air festival foRest

On May 26 and 27, the second foRest festival takes place, which this year examines the 'footprints' people leave in nature and in other people, and otherwise. The festival is an initiative of the Latvian College of Culture, and takes place in Jaunsvirlauka parish, Jelgava municipality. More information is available on the festival's event page.

Jūrmala Festival

After a three-year pandemic break, the Jūrmala Festival takes place again on May 27, 11:00 to 23:00. The city will offer activities, workshops, street food, local production markets, concerts, and good time in the central neighborhoods of the town (Majori and Dzintari). The event will conclude with a grand concert on the Majori Beach stage. Entrance is free, but remember that entrance to the town in the summer season comes with a 2-euro fee to be paid online or at the city gate.
