Have a fertile festival, says Prime Minister

Take note – story published 8 years ago

Latvia's Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma got into the Midsummer mood Friday with a message to the nation in which she wished "blessing and fertility" to everyone.

"According to ancient traditions, at Midsummer night we accumulate the power of nature. The way we celebrate this festivity depends solely on us – whether we want to make it different from other celebrations – to learn a new song and embellish home for Midsummer," began the statement from her office.

"I wish the whole of Latvia blessing and fertility! May you all experience the power of Midsummer that enhances endurance and the joy of living! The power that strengthens our awareness that a man and nature are inseparably linked; and that nature must be held in high esteem – like our ancestors did hundreds and thousands of years ago."

"Happy Midsummer's Eve and Jānis day!" she concluded.

We'd like to see Angela Merkel or David Cameron top that!
