Latvian film director Rolands Kalniņš dies aged 100

Ten days after his 100th birthday, Latvian legendary film director Rolands Kalniņš (1922-2022) passed away, the National Film Center of Latvia (NKC) said May 18.

In his long career Kalniņš has directed or co-directed nearly 30 films and produced some more. Among his best-known works is the 1955 'Salna pavasarī', 1957 'Kā gulbji balti padebeši iet', 1968 'Mērnieku laiki', 1967 'Elpojiet dziļi'/'Četri balti krekli', 1972 'Ceplis', and the production of 1991 'Cilvēka bērns'.

On May 7, Kalniņš' 100th birthday, the National Film Center portal filmas.lv published a selection of Kalniņš' films free for all to view. The selection is available here.
