The animation film “My Favorite War” by Ilze Burkovska-Jakobsena, produced by the Latvian studio “Ego Media”, won a prize at the Annecy festival in France, according to the information published on the festival's website.

The “My Favorite War” won the Contrechamp program of the festival, which featured 10 full-scale animation films from all over the world. In this contest last year, Latvian Gints Zilbalodis' film "Away" walked away with the first prize.

In a statement to the media, Dita Rietuma, the head of the National Film Center, stressed the importance of the event:

“The fact that two consecutive years of animation films produced in Latvia are winning the Contrechamp competition of the world's most important animation film festival is truly unique, even phenomenal."

The film producer Guntis Trekteris pointed out that what had happened was a great honor: “Already entering the Annecy Festival competition is the dream of the animation filmmakers, but victory – it is a very honorable message. This recognition is an excellent starting point for a film that will soon be seen in Latvia."

The autobiographical theme-based story “My Favorite War” on Soviet childhood in Latvia is a co-production of Latvia and Norway, and the national premiere in Latvia will take place in the autumn.

The Annecy International Film Festival, which has been taking place in France since the 1960s, is one of the most significant and prestigious animation film festivals in the world, filmmakers say. This year, the festival had been moved to a virtual environment.
