Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Festival begins Monday

On July 12, the School Youth Song and Dance Festival will start in Latvian municipalities. The first event will be a 'festival car' ride through local governments “Saulesvija” (Weave of sun), greeting local participants until July 29.

The school song festival postponed from last year has now started slowly. The festive car will roll through each of the 43 municipalities, while the public will be able to follow the first event on the organizers' homepage and on social networks, as well as on the LSM.lv portal.

“Saulesvija” will start in Kurzeme and weave through all of Latvia in 14 days. “We start with Kuldīga in the heart of Kurzeme, then travel around Kurzeme, Zemgale, Sēlija, Latgale, Vidzeme, Pierīga and on July 29, Rīga,” said director of the event, Inga Krišāne.

The events of the Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Festival #dziedundejo2021 take place between July 12 and the end of October. The festival's overall program is scheduled to be composed of 15 different events in choir singing, vocal music, instrumental music, dance, visual and visual plastic art, folklore. Events are planned in local governments, as close as possible to the place of residence, outdoors. In any event, the number of participants is 1 to the number allowed in the country at that time, there is no general assembly, no centralized rehearsals or a long rehearsal process. The developments will be recorded in video recordings. All videos will be released to the Writers and Music Museum for the upcoming Song and Dance Celebration exhibition as a testimony of the 21st century and the pandemic time.
