A statement published on the official website of the marathon said:
"We in the marathon team send our sincere condolences and sympathies to the friends and relatives of the participant who died during today's 10km distance race."
The man was reported to be 25 years of age and died despite the best efforts of paramedics who were quickly on the scene.
In all 25,931 participants from 69 countries were registered to take part in the various distances, making the event the biggest running festival in the Baltic states.
