Poetry Days about to bring literary joy to Latvia

Take note – story published 8 years ago

September has been the month of poetry for some 50 years already, as the annual Poetry Days, which started as a homage to Rainis' 100th birthday, will take hold of the capital and the rest of Latvia from September 3 to September 15. This year the Poetry Days will feature a whopping 36 performances with Latvian and foreign poets.

This year, the motto of the Poetry Days is "Poetry never lies", and it'll be up to you to see whether that's true.

Foreign visitors to Riga will enjoy performances where poetry is interspersed with music, or perhaps they'll fancy listening to guest poets from countries like Poland, Kazakhstan, Estonia, Belarus and others.

As an English program for the events is lacking, we are presenting a description of the events where languages other than Latvian are spoken, or where the combination of poetry and other media makes up for it.
