This year's slogan is Dzeja vieno (Poetry unites). The opening of the festival will take place September 2, 18:00, at the arts center NOASS with readings and musical performances.
The first Poetry Days were celebrated on 11 September 1965 at Communard Park (now known as the Esplanāde) in honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Latvian poet Rainis. Latvian Writers’ Union decided to organize a Poetry Days event every year, and so this tradition was born.
This year's Poetry Days take place September 2 to 11 and will bring more than 50 Latvian and foreign poets to Rīga in more than 20 different events. The full program is available on the festival's home page. Current information is also available on social media.
