Three for the Weekend: Language, films, fair

Take note – story published 1 year ago

The so-called 'Latvian golden autumn' is truly here, so take some time to go outside and admire the yellowness of it all. Here are some activities you can do alongside that.

World Dictation in Latvian

On National Language Day, Saturday, October 15, at 12:20 Rīga time the annual world dictation day in Latvian will take place simultaneously in Latvia and around the world for the eighth year in a row. This year, the dictation will be broadcast live on the Latvian Radio 1 program "Kultūras rondo" and on Latvian Television – those interested will be able to write down the dictation while listening to the radio or watching television. The dictation can be written online not only on the website raksti.org, but also on the Latvian public media portal lsm.lv, as well as onsite at 14 designated locations.

Rīga IFF

The Rīga International Film Festival (IFF) began October 13.

For 11 days, more than 100 films from all over the world will be screened in Riga and online throughout Latvia. There is a special focus on developments in the cinema landscape of the Baltic Sea region and the Nordic countries. This year, the festival also continues its efforts to open up the experience of cinema to a wider audience by improving accessibility.

The program is available on the Rīga IFF website.

Mežaparks Fair

On October 15 and 16, a local foods and crafts market will be set up at the Mežaparks park, near the Rīga Zoo, so you can combine a walk among the golden leaves with a tasty meal and a hand-crafted souvenir. More information on Facebook.
