Meteņi Masks at Open-air museum
Even though most of us might be sick and tired of masks, there are still those worn for fun and aesthetic. Latvian Ethnographic Open-air museum offers a 'Meteņi Mask Trail' and the Traditional Mask Exhibition 'Between Two Suns'.
Meteņi or Metenis is an ancient Latvian spring waiting holiday which ends on Ash Wednesday, which is followed by Lent. Meteņi is celebrated in February or early March, seven weeks before Easter.
The trail and exhibition are open January 22 to February 21 from 10 AM to 5 PM.

Skiing
The weather is ripe to get your skiing gear on if you haven't already. Latvia, though lacking mountains, is rather rich in slopes - and cross-country tracks.
You can find locations of downhill skiing slopes at aktivalatvija.lv.
Cross-country ski tracks are found on celotajs.lv.
If you want to ski in Riga, locations are available on rigaslepo.lv.
