100th Birthday of Poet Velta Sniķere

As previously reported by LSM, a scholarly and creative conference “Experience and Views: 100th Birthday of Poet Velta Sniķere” will take place online on Friday, December 18, 2020, from 16:00 to 21:00.

Velta Sniķere, a Latvian poet, translator, and yoga teacher, was born on December 25, 1920 and grew up in independent Latvia. Since 1946 she has lived in London, England. She is a founding member of the British Wheel of Yoga and has released several collections of poetry and translated Latvian folk songs and the work of other poets into English.

The event will be in Latvian and can be followed live at the Facebook and YouTube pages of the Institute of Literature, Folklore, and Art, where you can also find more details of the event.

Dod pieci Charity Marathon

The annual Dod pieci charity marathon is running in Latvia from December 17 to 23, aiming to raise awareness of domestic violence and contribute towards its reduction. This weekend, you have the chance to donate a pledge of a minimum 5 EUR towards the cause in exchange for your choice of song to be played on air on Latvian Radio 5 (pieci.lv).

You can also watch the livestream and find out more about the event at this story by LSM.
