Three for the Weekend: Sigulda challenge, Light park, National Theater

Take note – story published 3 years ago

Though 2021 has not yet brought changes in event and cultural life, the great outdoors remain, as do online events. Here are a few to explore this weekend.

Sigulda 10 km challenge

On January 9 or 10, you have a chance to walk or run a 10-kilometer distance mapped by athlete Edijs Dzalbs in Sigulda. The route is marked on a GPX file available here. Start is at the parking lot of Svētku Square in Sigulda.

If you want to compete, you can upload a screenshot of your distance and time on the Facebook event, where more information is also available. But you may also do it for fun  and be awarded with fresh air, sights and exercise.

Light park in Ieriķi

Every year, the nature park near Ieriķi Windmill (Ieriķu dzirnavas) is lit up by lanterns, candles, torches, creating a magic atmosphere and prompting unique photoshoots. It has been glowing this season since Halloween and still is - if you haven't had a chance to see it yet, this is it!

You may bring your own candles with you to put them up the Wall of Good Thoughts. Face masks are mandatory.

The park is open Saturday, January 9, from 16:30 to 20:30. Remember to go in time to be able to return before curfew.

Location available here.

National Theater online

Starting January 8, Latvian National Theater broadens its 'e-theater' range with six Latvian author plays, which 'have become unforgettable instances of art on our stages'. You may view the full list of plays available online here, marked E-TEĀTRIS.
