Wild Food Festival to take place in Zaube

Hundreds of food fans are set to congregate on the village of Zaube this weekend with the second Wild Food Festival taking place there.

Last year's inaugural event took organizers by surprise, proving a complete sell-out and suggesting Latvians' enthusiasm for wild food runs far beyond mushrooms and birch juice.

The event stresses Latvia's wealth of wild and ecologically clean food as well as its culture of getting food direct from nature.

This year there will be several themed tents: Forest, Meadow and Water, plus a wide variety of tastings and masterclasses from chefs including Eriks Dreibants, plus demonstrations from food producers and wild food experts.

Master of ceremonies will be popular TV presenter Roberto Meloni to add an Italian flavor to proceedings.

The event is part of the program offered by the Riga-Gauja region of gastronomy and is organized in cooperation with Amata municipality.

Zaube is around 80 kilometers from Riga, so an exodus of foodies from the capital to the beautiful wilds of Vidzeme can be expected. Tickets can be bought in advance.
