She added that whether mushrooms will be present this summer is a question for meteorologists, not mycologists. There is a need for humidity and heat for fungi to thrive but neither is present as temps drop during the night.
The mycologist said she had been in the Dalbe vicinity last weekend, in a relatively humid forest, but found no mushrooms in the woods or ditches.
Mushroom-pickers might remember last year when at the beginning of September, the Natural History museum had to cancel its annual mushroom exhibition due to a shortage of fungi, but closer to the end of September there were finally enough shrooms for the exhibit to take place. Mycologist Dāniele told LSM.lv that she had worked at the Natural Museum for nearly 40 years but only twice had they had to cancel the exhibition.
