Latvia celebrates its centenary

Take note – story published 6 years ago

Latvia marked 100 years of statehood November 18 with events across the country and beyond to celebrate the historic occasion.

The Presidents of Estonia, Lithuania, Finland and Iceland are joining President Raimonds Vējonis to lay flowers at the Freedom Monument and see the traditional military parade along the banks of the River Daugava before enjoying a concert at the Latvian National Theater, the very building where independence was proclaimed exactly 100 years earlier.

Good wishes have been pouring in from around the world from people of all types and even the internet search engine Google entered into the spirit of the day on its homepage.
