Latvian book design awards annnounced

On the evening of April 4, the awards ceremony of the Zelta Ābele (Golden Apple) 2023" book art competition was held at the National Library of Latvia, where the winners of the competition in seven categories were announced.

The artist of the year title went to designer Aleksejs Muraško for the third time, while Klāvs Priedītis and Aleksandra Runde received the jury's special prizes.

In the "Poetry" category, the main prize was awarded to the book Dāma baltos džinsos" ("Lady in White Jeans") by Marts Pujats. Its design was made by Armands Zelčs, printed at Jelgava printing house, and the publisher is Neputns.

In the "Prose" category, Aristotle's work "Runas māksla – rētorika" ("The Art of Speech - Rhetoric") was recognized as the best. The author of the design is Aleksejs Muraško, the book was printed at the Jelgava printing house, and the publisher is the University of Latvia.

Aleksandra Runde's book "Ko darīt, ja esi kails pilsētā" ("What to do if you are naked in the city") took the laurels in the category of books for children and young people. Aleksandra Runde is also the author of the design and illustrations of the book, which is printed by SIA "Terra", and published by Jānis Roze publishing house.

In the vote of the readers of the LSM.lv portal, Inese Zandere's book "Neredzamie plāksterīši" ("Invisible Patches") was recognized as the most beautiful book of 2023 with design by Artis Briedis, illustrations by Krista Bitmete, printed at Jelgava printing house by Liels un mazs publishing house.
