Over 50 Latvian author books published abroad last year

In 2023, 54 Latvian authors' books came out abroad. The languages they were most translated in were Lithuanian, Estonian, and Spanish, but the most translated authors were Anete Melece, Nora Ikstena, and Semjons Haņins, reports Latvian Literature platform.

Over the last year, 54 Latvian authors' works were published in 19 countries. Eight translations of Latvian literary works came out in Lithuanian, while six works were translated in Estonian and Spanish. 

Of the books released last year, 17 are works by the genre of poetry, 19 are children's literature and 15 are prose, as well as 3 anthologies of poetry and prose. Top translated works include Anete Melece's "Stella's Stolen Sleep" (5 translations), Nora Ikstena's "Soviet Milk" (4 translations), and Semjons Haņins' poetry collection "But Not With It" (3 translations).

Most Latvian literary works abroad came out with the support of the Latvian Ministry of Culture.
