Mudīte Treimane, is a former subject information expert at the Humanities and Social Sciences Reading Room of the National Library of Latvia (LNB), who has devoted almost 50 years of work to the LNB.
Two other Latvian writers have received this award - Solveiga Elsberga in 1986 and Juris Kronbergs in 2014. The translation prize was established in 1965 and is awarded by the Swedish Academy.
Mudīte Treimane was also awarded the Jānis Baltvilks Prize in 2009 for her long-standing and outstanding contribution to the translation of Scandinavian children's literature.
Mudīte Treimane translates from Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and English, and has translated around 100 books, mostly for children, into Latvian. Many of them are by Astrid Lindgren.
