Rīga's Opera festival begins

The annual Riga Opera Festival started on June 5 at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet, the festival organizers announced.

Founded in 1998, the festival ends the Latvian National Opera season each summer with the highlights of the past musical year. Since 2022, the festival program also includes ballet performances.

On June 5, the Festival opened with a major production of Giuseppe Verdi's opera Don Carlos.

As usual, the season and the festival will be closed with two magnificent Gala Concerts - on June 20 at the open-air concert hall "Mītava" in Jelgava and on June 21 at the Latvian National Opera. The concert will feature Italian and French operatic gems by composers Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, Francesco Chilea, Georges Bizet, Charles Gounod, Jules Massenet, Ruggiero Leoncavallo and Gaetano Donizetti.

The full festival program can be found on the opera's website.
