The popular performer topped a list of ten finalists with his song "Hollow" as a result of a public vote and the vote of an 'expert jury', the composition of which has yet to be revealed.
It is a somewhat downbeat power ballad in which Dons expresses the desire that "I'd rather let them dig my grave shallow instead of selling out of something so hollow." Whether this is the sort of sentiment that will receive endorsement in a pan-European vote in the Spring remains to be seen.
Dons will now compete for Latvia in a Eurovision semi-final, hoping to make the final for Latvia the first time since 2016. You can see his winning performance below.
