Latvian basketball stars in action once more against Italy

Just one day after the disappointent of a nail-biting defeat to Germany in the FIBA basketball World Cup in Manila, the Latvian team faces the difficult task of picking itself up and playing against another strong team in the shape of Italy.

The tourmanent format decrees that teams knocked out in the quarter final stages must play each other to determine the final finishing ladder – which always runs the risk of being a slight anti-climax. Nevertheless, the Latvian team will want to sign out on a high an Italy provides an opportunity to claim another noteworthy scalp.

Added to that is the fact that Latvia's Italian coach, Luca Banchi, will be keen to score a victory against his homeland and opposite number Gianmarco Pozzecco.

The match in Manila starts at 11:45 Rīga time (16:45 local time). 

Later in the day Lithuania will take on Slovenia in another play-off match.
