Latvia scores another win in EuroBasket qualifications

Latvian men's national basketball team defeated Slovakia 64:52 in the second game of the 2025 European Championship qualification on Sunday, February 25, at Arena Riga.

The Latvian national team, which as one of the hosts of the final tournament has already secured a place in the championship, started the qualification with two wins in two matches.

Latvia started European Championship qualification on Thursday with a 79:75 away win over Spain, while the Slovaks lost 60:75 at home to Belgium.

After the match against Spain, two changes were made to the Latvian national team line-up, and Artūras Strautiņš and Kārlis Šiliņš were replaced by Krišs Helmanis and Ojārs Siliņš for the second game. The Slovak team played against Latvia with the same line-up as against Belgium.

Latvia has already secured the right to play in the final tournament in Riga in August and September 2025.

Latvia is ranked eighth in the FIBA rankings, while Slovakia is 60th. The Latvian national team has met Slovakia eight times since the restoration of independence, winning all of them.
