Latvia's World Cup warm-up stays on track with another win

The Latvian men's basketball team, continued their preparations for the forthcoming World Cup finals, with a friendly against the Dominican Republic in Rīga on Saturday. 

In a tense game the hosts emerged with a 74:69 victory in this test match as well. The Latvian national team has now won all three of its pre-tournament tests so far.

The team was without some of its big name NBA stars including Kristaps Porziņgis and Dāvis Bertāns, while the Jānis Timma and the top scorer of the previous test game, Aigars Škēle, were also missing from the line-up. Nevetheless it retained enough firepower to overcome some very game and capable visitors who provided a real test throughout.

In the matches held so far, Latvia defeated Sweden 87:77 and outclassed Georgia 82:57.

On Wednesday, the Latvian basketball team will face the Finnish team in its last test match in Rīga, before jetting off to Taiwan for match-ups against Puerto Rico and Lithuania.

The final tournament of the World Cup will take place from August 25 to September 10 in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines. The Latvian national team will play in the capital of Indonesia, Jakarta, fighting for victories against France, Canada and Lebanon.
