Latvia scores first win in hockey championship

Take note – story published 1 year and 4 months ago

The Latvian hockey team, after two losses in the world championship, won against the Czech Republic at 4:3 in overtime on Monday evening, thus slightly improving the chances of making it to the quarter-finals.

Latvia had never beaten the Czech team before in world championships.

The goals were scored by Rihards Bukarts, Mārtiņš Dzierkals, Oskars Cibuļskis and Oskars Batņa.

At the start of the championship, the Latvian ice hockey players suffered defeat against Canada and Slovakia, while the Czech won both Slovakia and Kazakhstan in the first two games. Victory for Latvia's national unit over the Czech Republic would increase the prospect of entering the quarter-finals.

The Latvian team will play against Norway on Wednesday, but will also meet with Slovenia, Kazakhstan, and Switzerland later. The group's four most powerful teams will enter the quarter-finals.
