Latvia looks forward to U.S. hockey clash Tuesday

Large parts of Latvia will grind to a halt again Tuesday with the country's ice hockey team taking on the United States at the IIHF World Championships in the Czech Republic.

Latvia will take on the U.S. in the final game of the group stages of the tournament, with hopes remaining that they can progress to the knockout stages after a crucial victory against Slovakia on Sunday.

First of all, Latvia has to win in regular time against the USA and then hope that the Slovaks will be defeated in regular time in their game against Sweden. The Slovaks are the only competitors of the Latvian national team in the fight for the last ticket to the knockout rounds. Sweden, the U.S. and Germany have already booked their tickets to the latter stages from Group B.

The four strongest teams of each group will play in the quarterfinals. The medal winners of the championship in the Czech Republic will be decided on May 26.

All world championship matches can be seen live on LSM.lv. Tuesday's game starts at 17:10 Latvian time with the Sweden versus Slovakia game later in the day at 21:10.
