In a conversation with the leaders of the national Olympic committees, IOC President Thomas Bach informed them that at the next meeting of the IOC Executive Committee, no issues will be resolved regarding the possibilities of athletes and teams from Russia and Belarus to compete in the Paris Olympic Games. The IOC plans to monitor and continue to evaluate the situation, Tikmers said.
"His [Bach's] words were literally that the International Olympic Committee does not plan to make any specific decisions in this regard, but will monitor the situation and actually follow the development of events, with special emphasis on the decisions made by the international federations," explained Tikmers.
As previously reported by LSM, Latvia's Olympic Committee has taken a clear position that allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete at the Olympics would be unacceptable. The governments of Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine have the same view.
