Latvian ice hockey team returned from the world championship on Monday at noon with a flight from Tampere. Fans were asked not to go to the airport but arrive at the Freedom Monument for a special event, the Latvian Hockey Federation said on May 28.
Thousands did so.
The Latvian hockey team reached unprecedented heights in the world championships, scoring a bronze medal for the first time on Sunday afternoon and sparking nation-wide celebrations.
A livestream of the Freedom Monument event from LTV, which was also carried on LSM, experienced technical difficulties, leading to frustration for many viewers. A lengthy inquest into how this could have happened is likely. In an attempt to plug the gap, a package of highlights was broadcast.
