Canada beats Latvia in Olympic warm-up hockey match

Take note – story published 6 years and 5 months ago

Canada's mighty national ice hockey team overcame Latvia in a pre-Olympic warm-up match played in Rīga February 4.

The visitors scored twice while shutting out the home team to record a modest 2-0 victory in front of an enthusiastic crowd eager to see some of the sport's biggest names in action. Marc-Andre Gragnani and Mat Robinson scored for Canada.

Despite the loss, Latvia - coached by Canadian Bob Hartley - showed again that they are not outclassed when facing the strongest teams in the world. And despite the ''friendly'' status of the match there was no shortage of aggression and determination on display from either team, making it a very useful Olympic preparation exercise.
