The Latvian Volleyball Federation (LVF) and the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) agreed to organize the 2020 European Championship in beach volleyball in Jurmala from September 16 to 20, LVF said on July 10.

The European Championship was originally scheduled for the Netherlands, where it was refused. LVF started talks with CEV on the possibility of organizing the European Championship in Latvia in April. At the same time, talks were held with the Jurmala City Council on financial support, as well as the possible tournament in a city historically regarded as the beach volleyball capital of Latvia.

On 7 July, the Board of  CEV decided to entrust the organization of the event to Latvia. The letter from the President of CEV, Aleksandar Boričić, states that CEV will follow that the competition takes place in compliance with all security measures due to the spread of COVID-19. CEV also promises financial and organizational support.

The LVF is prepared to implement strong measures in cooperation with CEV to ensure the health and safety of all players, service personnel and spectators at the European Championship in Jurmala as a top priority.

High-level international tournaments in Majori, Jurmala, have been taking place since 2014.
