Latvian skeleton champion Martins Dukurs ends career

World champion in skeleton Martins Dukurs has concluded his athlete's career, Dukurs announced Friday, August 12, on Instagram.

During his career, Dukurs became Olympic vice-champion twice, world champion six times, and European champion 12 times. In the World Cup competition, he has been on the pedestal 90 times. Dukurs participated in five Olympic games.

"I have suffered painful losses, loud victories, an unspeakable fascination and a desire to prove more and more. This feeling, which has created addiction, cannot be dispelled, and I know already I will miss the competition," Dukurs writes in his statement.
