Latvia's ice hockey hopes still alive after great British win

Take note – story published 2 years and 2 months ago

Latvia kept their dream of making the latter stages of the IIHF World Championships alive May 22 with another narrow win, this time against Great Britain.

The unfancied Brits put up a good fight and at one stage led 3:1, but Latvia emerged from the match with a 4:3 win and another three points that lifts them to fifth place in their 8-team qualifying group. Four teams will advance to the knockout stages.

To qualify for the quarter finals and sneak into fourth spot, Latvia will need to win their final game against Sweden on May 24 – a tough ask in itself – and hope that matches involving the USA and the Czech Republic fall their way.
