Latvia's women's Olympic javelin hopes rest on Palameika's shoulders

Latvian javelin thrower Madara Palameika achieved her best result of the season in the qualification competition at the Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday, which allowed her to qualify for the final.

Palameika threw 60.94 meters in her best effort, which was the fourth best result in her qualifying pool and the 12th best overall.

A total of 30 athletes, divided into two groups, started in javelin qualification. The 12 best athletes made it to the final. A place in the final could be automatically guaranteed by sending the javelin further than 63 meters.

Unfortunately team-mates Līna Mūze and Anete Kociņa did not manage to mae the qualifying distance, finishing in 26th and 21st places respectively.

The women's javelin final is scheduled for Friday.
