The Latvian national ice hockey team lost 0:1 to Sweden in the last round of the IIHF World Hockey Championships on Tuesday and said goodbye to their chances of reaching the quarterfinals in the process.

With 8 points in total from their seven games, Latvia will take 10th place at the tournament in Finland. Despite the disappointment of not making the knockout stages, some of the younger squad members have shown hopeful signs for the future.

The victory for the Swedish national team was secured during a power play in the second period.
