After arriving in Beijing this week, one person in the Latvian Olympic delegation tested positive for Covid-19, and another four have been deemed contact persons, the LETA newswire reported, citing Latvian Olympic Committee spokeswoman Marita Vilcina.

However, only one athlete has been deemed a contact person – cross-country skier Raimo Vigants, whose first scheduled start is next Sunday.

All five were part of the first group of the Latvian Olympic delegation that flew from Riga via Helsinki to Beijing on Wednesday.

The person who tested positive for Covid-19 was cross-country ski coach Valts Eiduks, who was immediately isolated and taken to a hotel outside the Olympic village. He will be tested on a daily basis and allowed into the Olympic village after showing two negative tests.

Meanwhile, the other four contact persons have been taken to a separate building within the Olympic village, and they too will be tested once every 12 hours for the next seven days.
