Ostapenko bows out in last eight at Australian Open

On Tuesday, Latvia's top-ranked female tennis player Aļona Ostapenko lost to Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open Grand Slam tennis tournament.

At the moment, Ostapenko is ranked 17th in the WTA rankings, while Rybakina is ranked 25th.

This is Ostapenko's best-ever performance at the Australian Open, as this is the first time she has advanced to the quarterfinals.

Ostapenko has earned 430 WTA ranking points for advancing to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, which will allow her to move up to 11th place in the WTA rankings.

Ostapenko defeated Ukraine's Dayana Yastremska 6-4, 6-2 in the opening round of the Australian Open, defeated Hungary's Anna Bondar 7-6, 5-7, 6-0 in the second round, defeated Ukraine's Kateryna Baindl 6-3, 6-0 in the third round, and overcame Coco Gauff (United States) 7-5, 6-3 in the fourth round.
