Ostapenko's strong season continues

Latvia's top tennis player, Aļona Ostapenko, currently ranked 12th in the world, continued her excellent season February 4 by winning the Linz "WTA 500" series tournament on Sunday, defeating the Russian Yekaterina Alexandrova, 6-2, 6-3.

Alexandrova was competing as a so-called "neutral" athlete. In the semi-finals of the tournament, Ostapenko defeated another so-called neutral Russian tennis player Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova by the same scoreline.

Ostapenko has started this season in good form. At the beginning of the year she won the Adelaide "WTA 500" tournament, and in the first "Grand Slam" of the year - the Australian Open Championship, Latvia's current best tennis player reached the third round. She also made the final of the women's doubles competition with her Ukrainian partner Lyudmyla Kichenok.
