Ostapenko back to winning ways in Dubai

Latvia's top-ranked women tennis player Aļona Ostapenko defeated Russia's Veronika Kudermetova 6-0, 6-4 in the final of the Dubai Tennis Championships on February 19, winning her fifth title in the process.

At the moment, Ostapenko is ranked 21st in the world, while Kudermetova is ranked 31st.

Ostapenko has earned 470 WTA ranking points for winning the Dubai tournament.

Ostapenko defeated Sofia Kenin (United States) 6-1, 6-2 in the first round of the tournament on Tuesday, then defeated Iga Swiatek of Poland 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7:4) and the Czech Republic's Petra Kvitova 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 to advance to the semis, where she beat Romania's Simona Halep 2-6, 7-6, 6-0.

Later on Saturday, Ostapenko together with Lyudmyla Kichenok (Ukraine) were defeated by Kudermetova and Elise Mertens (Belgium) 1-6, 3-6 in the final of the doubles event.
